trespass | by the alex diamond mining company
01|08|11 TRESPASS is a short-film-project that was realised in the summer of 2011 over the course of several weeks. Against the background of issues like craftsmanship, tradition, urbanity, commercialisation and “branding”, a classical woodprint was produced. Subsequently, the motif was used as a graffiti and a t-shirt, hand-printed with oil colour. Finally, it found its way onto trucker hats and coffee mugs. The whole process explicates an artwork’s journey through various techniques until it reaches commercialisation.
The film documents this process. At the same time, it is the filmic staging of how an artistic idea can be exploited in order to become a mass product. Advertising’s use of contemporary art as a product (that ends up in a one-euro-shop after some brief hype) is merely fictional here, however. The alleged mass products were manufactured in minimal numbers or by hand. They were not aimed at any market.
The film also tells a possible story of “The Alex Diamond Mining Company” and could even serve as a so-called image film.
